Q&A · General (no school-specific opinion)
Can my zakat go to my parents?
No, you cannot give obligatory zakat to your parents. You can (and should) support them from your ordinary wealth.
Answered by Shaikhul Hadith Mufti Abdur Rahman · Principal & Shaikhul Hadith
No — the classical position across the four schools is that zakat cannot be given to parents, grandparents, children or grandchildren. Supporting them is already your obligation from your ordinary wealth; zakat exists for other categories.
If your parents are genuinely struggling, help them promptly and generously from non-zakat funds. If you have siblings, coordinate so the burden is shared fairly.
